“Remarkable care” was the theme of the ribbon cutting at Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center on Saturday.
“This is your hospital,” center President Don Sedgely said, stressing that the hospital was designed by and for residents who gave input into its design, as did doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers. “You designed it, it’s for you…you will receive remarkable care.”
The center, which is adjacent to the Heathcote Health Center on Heathcote Blvd., is scheduled to open officially in March.
This is Novant’s 15th medical center.
Sedgley said, “Once you go in, you will be absolutely amazed.”
The more than 1,000 attendees were offered a tour of the new facility, including the emergency treatment rooms, nursery and operating rooms.
Hundreds of participants took part in the onsite diabetes screenings and BMI assessments. Hoola-hoopers, a man on stilts and other costumed volunteers roamed the halls, making for a family friendly celebration.
The hospital includes sixty all-private patient rooms, a medical surgical unit, twenty private emergency treatment rooms, a critical care unit with eight beds, a women’s health center with maternity care, a well-baby nursery, four operating suites with separate procedure rooms, expanded inpatient and outpatient imaging, facility-wide telemetry for heart monitoring, a gift shop, a café and an interfaith reflection room. The fourth floor is currently a shell being saved for expansion.
Outside, a helicopter pad is available for emergency transport. The emergency room is accessible on both sides of the building, ensuring easy drop-off and access. The wood flooring is designed to absorb noise, creating a quieter environment in waiting rooms.
Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center not only has state-of-the-art equipment, it offers a mobile mammography unit, a coach that provides screening mammography services in the community. Operating the coach is a collaborative effort between Novant Health breast health services, Novant Health Foundation and several individual and corporate donors. The service is designed to ensure all women have access to breast health services, regardless of ability to pay or travel to a full-service imaging center.
“The new hospital in Haymarket is a great addition to our community,” said Peter Candland, Gainesville District member of the Board of County Supervisors. “It will create local jobs, but more importantly, having a nearby hospital will improve the quality of healthcare in Western Prince William County and reduce emergency response times for those who need urgent care.”
Other programs are available through Novant’s Wellness Center located at Prince William Medical Center on Sudley Road in Manassas. The Wellness Center holds mini-diabetes seminars such as carb counting and understanding lab results. The Wellness Center also offers nutrition counseling, medical nutrition therapy, CPR instruction, first aid classes, childbirth preparation and baby care and breastfeeding workshops.
The Haymarket Medical Center will be a recipient of donations raised through a paver fundraiser. Inscribed bricks can be purchased in memory of, in honor of or in thanks to individuals and groups. The bricks, which can be purchased through the Prince William Medical Center gift shop, are $100.
